About the program

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art based on grappling and ground fighting, focusing on the skill of controlling one’s opponent through techniques that force him or her to submit. The popularity of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has been on a steady rise over the years, thanks to the growing audience of MMA and has become an integral part of most fighters’ games. At JMA our Primal Fight Team have the option to train in Kick Boxing, BJJ, Box and Burn and Taekwondo if they choose giving them an opportunity to build skills in all areas.

*Please Note BJJ is only at Joondalup currently.

Our BJJ Coach Cody Haddon began his martial arts journey at JMA as a child and has since gone on to build a career in the fighting world. He has trained in Taekwondo, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Boxing (3 x Australian champ) and BJJ (4 x PanPacs champ). Cody competes in the Bantamweight division and his amateur MMA record is 6-0. Cody made his pro debut in October 2020 and won via first round stoppage over a seasoned 23 fight veteran, and his pro record is now 2-1.

6 Of The Top Benefits Of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Self Defence

Studies show that 95% of street fights end on the ground. The techniques you learn in BJJ, which focuses on taking your opponent down to the ground and keeping them there, enables you to attack or get into a more dominant position. This gives you the upper hand at all times in a real-life self defence situations. If striking doesn’t work, grappling will be your second line of defence.

Anyone Can Train

Because it is an art that can teach a smaller, weaker practitioner to subdue much larger and stronger opponents, virtually anyone of any size, age or sex can practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Sharpens The Mind

BJJ is like a “game of human chess”, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners utilize a lot of strategy and technique in order to beat their opponents. There are thousands of techniques and concepts to learn in just a few years of training.

Over all Body Work out

One of the greatest benefits of BJJ is how your body changes without you realizing it. Constant drilling sessions and sparring will have a positive effect on your body. Weight loss, toning, flexibility, cardio and building muscle are all fantastic benefits of BJJ

One of the Best Bases for Martial Arts

What do all of the top MMA fighters have in common: a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Anyone who has a solid base in BJJ has the upper hand once the fight hits the ground. It is a great defense against wrestlers as well as strikers who aren’t as adept in the art.

Builds Resilience

There will be days when you feel like you’re at the top of the world and then there are some days where you wonder why you even bothered to attend class. BJJ exposes you to a roller coaster of emotions that will make you stronger physically, mentally and emotionally. You have to be ready to accept failure, learn from it and move on.
